Multi touch screen

Definition touch systems

A few words about terminology first: Although the term touchscreen also includes the output unit, i.e. the display, in some definitions, the terms touchscreen and touch sensor are usually used colloquially as synonyms. We concur with this for simplicity. A touch system, on the other hand, represents for us the combination of cover/front/mechanics, sensor and controller, whereas touch systems with display are summarized for us under the term HMI (=Human Machine Interface) or complete systems.

Multi Touch Display

Multi touchscreens, or in technical terms projective capacitive touch sensors, have become an indispensable part of everyday life. It took a few years after the introduction of the Iphone in 2007, but today multi-touch sensors represent a standard input method even for professional applications, e.g. in industrial, medical, building or automation technology. In the early days, the issues of EMC stability and operating safety under the influence of liquids such as water, blood and oils were particularly critical.

In today’s world, these issues can be better managed by choosing the right system. Mostly, the screen and multi-touchscreen are combined and lie on top of each other. The user can then tap on the elements displayed on the screen, move them or select several at once . One of the most popular use cases is to zoom in and rotate images by moving two fingers away from each other or rotating them around a common center point.

Multi touchscreens and capacitive touchscreens are two terms that serve for the same concept in the global.
