Aluminium

We use a lot of aluminium for our HMI input systems, front panels and carrier plates. As with many raw materials, there have been significant changes in the price of aluminium, so we would like to inform you, our customers, about the current situation on the raw materials market. As you may have already noticed, the price of aluminium has been moving in only one direction for the past year: upwards. The cost of aluminium recently climbed to a new record high on the commodity exchanges. Several reports have led to the rapid price increase.

After a sharp decline at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, aluminium prices have been climbing to new heights ever since! According to commodity analysts, reports that the EU is planning CO2 border tariffs may also have contributed to the current price jump. Among other things, steel, cement and aluminium are expected to be affected.

Supply bottlenecks and high prices: raw materials remain in short supply!

The global economy is picking up again after the waves of the pandemic, and many businesses could now see a sharp upturn, but rising raw material prices and supply bottlenecks remain one of the biggest post-coronavirus problems. The increase in aluminium prices is just one example of many. The causes vary depending on the industry and material, but the consequences are the same everywhere: inflation, everything is becoming more expensive. The Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW) recently announced that supply bottlenecks would cost the German economy around 25 billion euros over the course of the year. Like most companies in our industry, EP is also forced to pass on the increased material costs. We will keep you informed in any case.
